Foundation Separation Repaired: How We Stabilized and Restored a Foyer

What began as a simple foyer addition eventually developed into a serious foundation issue for these Pawling, NY homeowners. The foyer's concrete foundation had been installed years after the original home was built, and because the new foundation was not properly pinned to the existing structure, the two sections slowly began pulling apart.

Over time, a noticeable crack developed across the front of the home. The 5' x 18' foyer had shifted nearly an inch away from the main structure, and the floor was beginning to settle. Seasonal changes continued to make the movement worse, and the homeowners knew it was time for a permanent solution.

Stabilizing the Foyer Foundation

Our team excavated around the perimeter of the foyer and carefully worked beneath the existing footing to access stable bearing conditions. We then installed our Stabil-Loc push pier system, driving the pier segments deep into the ground until they reached solid bedrock.

A total of six push piers were installed, each fitted with a precision-engineered head assembly designed to transfer the weight of the structure to the stable bedrock below.

With the support system securely in place, we carefully lifted and repositioned the foyer. The structure was brought back to within approximately 1/8 of an inch of level, correcting years of settlement and movement.

Because the Stabil-Loc piers are supported by bedrock rather than unstable soil, the foyer now has a strong, permanent foundation designed to prevent future settlement.

Finishing the Foundation Repair

After the foyer was stabilized, we backfilled the excavated areas and restored the surrounding landscape. To complete the project, our team poured a brand-new entry slab, giving the front entrance a clean, finished appearance.

The result was more than just a cosmetic improvement. The foyer was properly supported, the structural separation was corrected, and the homeowners could once again feel confident in the stability of their home.

If you're noticing foundation cracks, sinking floors, separation between additions and the main house, or other signs of foundation movement, addressing the problem early can help prevent more extensive damage.
