Concrete Leveling in the Hudson Valley, NY
Lift Sunken Sidewalks, Driveways, Patios, and Floors with PolyLevel®
That uneven sidewalk panel may seem minor until someone catches a toe on it. A driveway that dips toward the garage can send rainwater where you least want it. When a concrete slab sinks, the problem often begins beneath the surface: soil has settled, washed away, or failed to provide consistent support.
Concrete Doctor of New York lifts and stabilizes eligible sunken slabs with PolyLevel® polyurethane foam injection. This targeted repair can restore a more even surface while keeping the concrete you already have. We serve homeowners and property owners around Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, Middletown, Kingston, Wappingers Falls, and nearby Hudson Valley communities.

Why Concrete Slabs Settle
Concrete is strong, but a slab relies on the ground beneath it. If backfill was not compacted evenly, soil can gradually compress under the slab. Runoff from downspouts, heavy rain, or poor drainage may carry supporting soil away. Hudson Valley freeze and thaw cycles can add movement where moisture gets into the ground. The result may be a void beneath part of the slab and a noticeable drop at the surface.
Lifting addresses the uneven slab and fills accessible voids beneath it. We also look at where water is going, because ongoing erosion can cause new movement after any repair.
Five Signs It Is Time to Look at Concrete Leveling
1. A Raised Lip at a Joint
One sidewalk or driveway section sits lower than the next, leaving an abrupt edge where people walk, roll a cart, or pull into the garage.
2. A Gap Beside the House, Steps, or Garage
A slab that has pulled away from a stoop, threshold, or adjoining section may have lost support. The size and direction of the gap help us understand what moved.
3. Water Collects in the Wrong Place
Puddles on a patio or water running toward a garage or foundation can indicate a change in slope. Drainage deserves attention along with the slab itself.
4. Cracks Accompanied by Unevenness
A crack alone does not prove that a slab needs lifting. When one side of the crack sits lower, or the crack grows as the slab settles, an evaluation can identify whether PolyLevel® is appropriate.
5. A Sunken Patio, Walkway, or Garage Floor
Even a small drop can affect how a space looks and works. Lifting may be possible if the slab has enough structural integrity to move as a section.

How PolyLevel® Concrete Lifting Works
Concrete Doctor uses the PolyLevel® system, the same polyurethane injection approach featured by Basement Systems of New York. The expanding material is placed beneath the slab to fill voids and provide lift where the concrete has settled.
- 1
Step 1: Assess the Slab and Its Surroundings
We check the amount of settlement, the slab's condition, nearby joints and structures, and drainage patterns. Not every broken or severely deteriorated slab is a good lifting candidate; we explain the options before work begins.
- 2
Step 2: Inject PolyLevel® Beneath the Concrete
Small access holes are drilled at planned points. Our crew injects the two-part polyurethane material below the slab. As it expands, it fills open space and can raise the concrete in a controlled manner. We monitor the surface as we work to improve alignment without promising an exact return to its original position in every case.
- 3
Step 3: Finish the Access Points
Once the lift is complete, we seal the injection holes and review the repaired area with you. The patches may remain visible, and existing cracks or surface wear do not disappear simply because the slab has been raised. PolyLevel® cures quickly; your crew will tell you when the surface can be used again for its intended load.
Where Can Concrete Doctor Lift Concrete?
PolyLevel® may be suitable for many types of concrete. Residential and commercial projects are evaluated individually. The slab's thickness, condition, access, load, and reason for settlement determine the repair plan.
- Sidewalks and walkways
- Driveways and garage approaches
- Patios
- Pool decks
- Stoops
- Garage floors
- Certain interior concrete slabs

Five Reasons to Consider Lifting Before Replacement
Keep Serviceable Concrete
If the slab is otherwise sound, lifting can preserve it and avoid demolition, hauling, new forming, and a fresh pour. We recommend replacement when the existing concrete is too damaged to lift effectively.
Reduce Disruption
Injection uses small access holes and typically disturbs less of the adjacent landscaping and hardscape than removing a slab.
Improve Walkability
Correcting uneven joints can reduce trip hazards at entrances, paths, and gathering areas. Every property still needs appropriate upkeep and attention to remaining cracks or edges.
Fill Gaps Beneath the Slab
PolyLevel® expands into voids beneath the concrete and helps stabilize the supported area. Drainage corrections may also be needed to limit future soil loss.
Get Back to Using the Space Sooner
PolyLevel® is a quick-curing material. Project duration and return-to-use timing depend on the site and the load the surface must carry; we will give you instructions for your repair.
Concrete Leveling FAQs
What is PolyLevel® concrete leveling?
PolyLevel® is a polyurethane foam injection system used to lift and stabilize eligible settled concrete. The material expands beneath the slab, fills voids, and can raise low sections without removing the existing concrete.
Is PolyLevel® the same as mudjacking?
Both methods inject material beneath concrete to raise it. PolyLevel® uses an expanding polyurethane material rather than a cement-based slurry. We use PolyLevel® and determine whether the slab is suitable after assessing its condition and settlement.
Can you level my driveway or sidewalk without replacing it?
Often, yes, if the concrete remains sound enough to lift. Deeply fractured, crumbling, or badly deteriorated slabs may need another repair approach or replacement. An on-site evaluation is the best way to tell.
Will lifting repair existing cracks?
Lifting may improve the alignment of a cracked section, but it does not erase cracks or restore broken concrete to a new appearance. Crack repair or joint treatment may be a separate recommendation.
How quickly can I use the concrete afterward?
PolyLevel® cures quickly, but safe return to foot or vehicle traffic depends on your specific job. Follow the instructions provided by the crew before using the repaired surface.
How long does concrete leveling last?
The outcome depends on the slab's condition, the support beneath it, drainage, and whether the ground continues to move. No responsible contractor can promise that soil will never settle again. We will explain what we observe and discuss any contributing drainage issue.
Will the injection holes show?
The holes are sealed after the lift, but patches may be visible, particularly on decorative or weathered concrete. We will discuss appearance before the work begins.
Do you level interior slabs and commercial concrete?
The PolyLevel® system can be used for certain interior and commercial slab applications. Tell us where the concrete is located and how it is used; we will assess access, loads, and the slab's condition.
What causes concrete to sink in the Hudson Valley?
Common contributors include poorly compacted fill, soil settlement, runoff that washes soil from beneath a slab, and moisture movement through seasonal freeze and thaw. A site visit helps identify which factors matter at your property.
Can I lift a concrete slab myself?
Controlled lifting requires equipment, material handling, and judgment about where and how much to inject. Lifting the wrong area can crack concrete or affect adjoining surfaces. A professional evaluation is the safer starting point.
